Land Rover Dealer auctions Series IIA in generous fundraiser
Shropshire’s business community is pulling together to help get vital supplies to the frontline in Ukraine, thanks to local business owner Joe Kwaterski. Joe has come up with a novel idea to raise funds by auctioning his pride and joy – Gertie, a 1971 Series IIA.
Having been completely restored, with full photographic documentation of the process, Jaguar Land Rover dealership Hatfields prepared and freshly MoT’d the classic vehicle for Joe where it then took pride of place on display at the Shrewsbury-based dealership until it was sold.
Gertie went up for auction on specialist website Collecting Cars, which even donated its fees to boost the fundraising total, which amounted to £27,250. Hatfields, which is marking its centenary year, generously matched the final amount raised.
All the money will be used to buy medical and relief supplies with the help of NHS consultant anaesthetist Dr Alexander Yashchik, organiser of Support Ukraine Shropshire. The supplies will be transported to Ukraine by family-run road haulage company Swains Transport of Church Stretton.
As the owner of Shrewsbury-based Adelphi Care Services, Joe has an insight into the desperate need for medical supplies in Ukraine, and with his noble decision to donate Gertie for auction, vital supplies will be in the war-torn country as soon as possible.
Donations to Support Ukraine Shropshire can be made via Dr Yashchik’s page: justgiving.com/crowdfunding/alexander-yashchik.
