British EV regeneration specialist, Inverted, has announced the launch of its debut model, an electrified Range Rover Classic

Known as #001, the vehicle is powered by a reconditioned low-mileage Tesla 80kWh battery module and Large Drive Unit. It produces a whopping 450bhp and 443lb-ft of torque, with a 0-60mph time of around five seconds. Three different drive modes – Eco, Sport and Off-Road – provide varying power outputs and regenerative braking levels.

Range Rover enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that four-wheel-drive is retained and the original axles have been restored and uprated to reflect the significant increase in power, while the front brakes have been uprated to Alcon items. In addition, #001 is equipped with an optional road handling pack, featuring adjustable shock absorbers, anti-roll bars and 25 per cent stiffer springs which provide the required balance between handling performance and comfort.

It has a range of 200 miles and there is a 6.6kW on-board charger and a CCS charger that can deliver up to 100kW charging, providing a 20 to 80 per cent charge in around 34 minutes at a rapid charge point – around the time it takes to queue for a coffee and visit the restrooms.

Inverted will source the Range Rover donor vehicle, and customers can choose between two-door, four-door or LSE specification – every car is subject to a full restoration inside and out alongside the electrification of the powertrain. Each vehicle is a bespoke build, so the final specification is very much down to the whims of the customer.

Inside #001, the combination of sustainable Mocha leather from Muirhead and contrasting Harris Tweed gives it a feel of luxury and style, while creature comforts such as additional soundproofing, modern air conditioning, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, reverse camera, high-end sound system, heated seats and USB charge points bring it into the 21st century. Harry Millington, Founder and Director of Inverted, explains: “With a passion for the classic Range Rover and a desire to futureproof this iconic model and reduce environmental impact, I founded Inverted. As part of this ethos, I made the conscious decision to recycle and re-use existing Tesla batteries, rather than increasing footprint with carbon-intensive new modules.

Pricing starts from a not inconsiderable £270,000 and bespoke build orders can now be placed. A maximum of six examples will be built annually and customers should allow 12-18 months for delivery. Each electric Range Rover comes with a 12-month warranty and technical support. Email [email protected] for more information.
